Central to ABIFF’s objectives is the empowerment of Abia State’s youth through comprehensive training in various facets of film production. Recognizing the pivotal role of Nollywood in Nigeria’s economy, ABIFF aims to cultivate a new generation of filmmakers capable of contributing to both artistic innovation and economic growth within their communities.

The establishment of an international film festival in Abia State represents a significant milestone, made possible through collaborative efforts of visionaries like Mr. Hope Obioma Opara, President and Founder of the Eko International Film Festival. With over 15 years of experience organizing the prestigious Ekoiff in Lagos, Mr. Opara’s leadership as Festival Director underscores ABIFF’s potential to attract global attention and investment.

Supporting ABIFF’s ambitious goals are industry stalwarts such as Mr. Wisdom Nwankwo, a renowned figure in Nollywood, who will mentor emerging talents in filmmaking. Mr. Ahamefule Ndubuisi, National Vice President of the Creative Designers Guild of Nigeria (CDGN), assumes the pivotal role of Festival Coordinator, alongside ABIFF’s Legal Adviser, Mrs. Ihunanya Chisom Onuagha, and Media and Publicity Officer, Mr. Thompson Nsisongabasi.

The festival is poised to become a premier platform for international film premieres, drawing filmmakers from around the world to showcase their works annually. Beyond its cultural celebration, ABIFF aims to position Abia State as a top-tier global tourist destination while catalyzing economic opportunities in the burgeoning film industry.

Dr. Elekwa seized the moment to appeal to the Abia State Government for steadfast support and collaboration, emphasizing ABIFF’s potential to spotlight the state’s rich cultural heritage and picturesque filming locations on a global scale.

This year’s theme, “Cultivating Abia’s Next Generation of Film Creatives,” encapsulates ABIFF’s commitment to fostering a dynamic environment for cinematic innovation and creative expression across Abia State.

In closing, Dr. Alex Elekwa reaffirmed his dedication to ABIFF’s success, heralding a new era of cultural prominence and creative vitality for Abia State.
