“Governor Alex Otti met with the leadership of organised Labour in Abia State to reassure them of his commitment to workers’ welfare. He announced plans for a new Ministry of Labour and Productivity to address labour issues effectively.”

In a significant move to address workers’ concerns, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of the state’s workforce. During a recent meeting with the leadership of the organised Labour, including the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), Governor Otti addressed pressing issues and announced plans for future improvements.

Governor Otti clarified that his administration has not yet received any funds from the Federal Government to implement the proposed 35,000 Naira wage award for workers. Despite this, he promised to thoroughly consider the wage award demand from Abia workers. The governor emphasized his dedication to ensuring that the workforce receives the support and resources they need.

“We are committed to the welfare of our workers,” Otti said. “Although we have not received any funds from the Federal Government for the wage award, we will look into the demands of Abia workers and work towards a solution.”

In a bid to enhance labour relations and improve productivity, Governor Otti announced the creation of a new Ministry of Labour and Productivity. This ministry aims to streamline government efforts in addressing labour issues and boosting productivity within the state. The new ministry will be headed by a commissioner from the labour sector, ensuring that the needs and perspectives of workers are well-represented at the governmental level.

“Our administration is poised to make necessary changes to the structure of government to better serve our people,” Otti stated. “The new Ministry of Labour and Productivity will be a significant step in this direction, and it will be led by someone from the labour fold to ensure we stay connected with the needs of our workers.”

The governor’s commitment to establishing this new ministry highlights his administration’s proactive approach to labour relations. By integrating labour representation into the government structure, Otti aims to foster a more collaborative and productive environment for addressing workers’ concerns.

The meeting with the labour leaders was part of Governor Otti’s broader effort to maintain open lines of communication with all stakeholders and to build a more inclusive and responsive government. The leaders of the NLC, TUC, and JNC expressed their appreciation for the governor’s transparency and willingness to engage in dialogue.

This development comes at a critical time for Abia State, as the government works to balance economic challenges with the need to improve worker welfare. Governor Otti’s initiatives are expected to set a positive tone for future labour relations in the state, promoting stability and growth.

As the situation unfolds, the workers of Abia State can look forward to a more supportive and responsive administration that prioritizes their welfare and aims to create a conducive environment for productivity and growth.
